The Christian music industry is mourning the loss of Gabriel Patillo, a Gospel singer associated with the popular artist TobyMac, who passed away on April 12 after battling cancer. The Gospel Music Association announced the news on Instagram, revealing that Patillo, the son of GMA President Jackie Patillo, had made significant contributions to the Christian music scene.
Patillo was known for his work with DC Talk and TobyMac’s Diverse City, where he sang background vocals, choreographed, danced, and co-produced tours. He leaves behind his wife, Jenni, and three children, Amara, Milo, and Remy. TobyMac took to Facebook to pay tribute to his former bandmate, expressing his belief that Patillo is now in the presence of Jesus and declaring that his legacy will never be forgotten.
Describing Patillo as one of the best performers he had ever worked with, TobyMac reminisced about their 24 years of collaboration and friendship. He praised Patillo for his talent and dedication on stage, but also highlighted his growth as a man, husband, and father offstage. A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Patillo’s family with their financial needs in the wake of his passing, with donations pouring in to honor his memory.
The Christian music community is coming together to remember and celebrate the life of Gabriel Patillo, a beloved artist whose impact will be felt for years to come.
