El Paso’s Emergence Health Network (EHN) is taking the lead in celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month this May with a series of educational events aimed at sparking conversations about mental health and wellness. The kickoff event took place at the El Paso Zoo over the weekend, where families gathered to enjoy the outdoors and learn more about the importance of mental health.
Noreen Jaramillo, the Director of Communications for EHN, emphasized the significance of opening up conversations about mental health within families and communities. “It’s about awareness. And the first step to mental health awareness is sparking that conversation,” she said.
ABC-7 has also been actively involved in promoting mental health awareness through its “Be Mindful” campaign. Parents attending the event shared their thoughts on what being mindful means to them, highlighting the importance of taking care of both mental and physical health.
While discussing mental health can be challenging, El Pasoans offered tips on how to combat the stigma surrounding mental health issues. They stressed the importance of normalizing conversations about mental health and seeking help when needed.
As Mental Health Awareness Month continues, EHN and other organizations are encouraging individuals to prioritize their mental well-being and reach out for support if necessary. For those in need of resources, EHN provides a list of helpful links on their website. Let’s continue to raise awareness and support each other in our mental health journeys.
