Michigan State University’s Executive Vice President for Health Sciences, Norm Beauchamp, is set to leave the university to take on a new role at Georgetown University. Beauchamp, who completed his undergraduate degree at MSU, returned in 2016 to serve as the dean of the College of Human Medicine. Throughout his eight-year tenure at the university, he held various leadership positions, including Associate Provost and Assistant Vice President for Health Affairs, before being appointed as the Executive Vice President for Health Sciences in 2019.
Beauchamp will remain at MSU until June 30 before transitioning to Georgetown University, where he will serve as the executive vice president for health sciences and executive dean at the School of Medicine. President Kevin Guskiewicz expressed both sadness and happiness in an email announcing Beauchamp’s departure, noting that Beauchamp felt a strong calling to Georgetown’s mission.
During his time at MSU, Beauchamp played a pivotal role in the establishment of both a human medicine and osteopathic medicine school, as well as forging medical partnerships in Flint, Grand Rapids, and Detroit. University Spokesperson Emily Guerrant praised Beauchamp for his empathetic nature and dedication to improving healthcare for patients and society.
As Beauchamp prepares to depart, Guskiewicz mentioned that a succession plan will be assessed and determined. Beauchamp will spend his final months at MSU working with his leadership team to ensure a smooth transition and the continuation of important partnerships. The university community expressed sadness at Beauchamp’s departure but also gratitude for his significant contributions during his time at MSU.
