The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is set to host a webinar addressing the critical relationship between housing and health in the Americas. The webinar will delve into the various challenges surrounding housing and health, shedding light on the five major pathways linking the two crucial aspects.
Scheduled for Friday, April 12, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am (ET, Washington DC time), the webinar will feature key speakers and experts in the field. Gerry Eijkemans, Director of the Department of Social and Environmental Determinants of Health Equity at PAHO, will kick off the event with welcome remarks, followed by a presentation from Hugo Vásquez, a regional advisor on health promotion at PAHO.
Meghan Holton, a researcher from the University at Buffalo, will provide an overview of research on the pillars of healthy housing, including quality, stability, affordability, neighborhood characteristics, and social connections. Betsy Bowen, an associate professor at the School of Social Work, will discuss global policy implications related to health equity and the right to housing.
The webinar will also feature insights from three experts from academia, government, and civil society, including Natalia Quinto from Argentina, Roshanak Mehdipana from the University of Michigan, and Juan Guillermo Orozco from PAHO Guatemala.
