The Austintown Fitch Falcons softball team continues their dominant run this season, securing an 8-2 victory over the Walsh Jesuit Warriors in the Regional championship game. The Falcons, who are the defending state champions, faced tough competition from the Warriors but managed to control the game from start to finish.
With this win, the Falcons improve their season record to an impressive 21-1 and advance to the state semifinals at Akron’s Firestone Stadium. They will be facing off against the Fairfield Indians next Friday, with high hopes of securing another state title.
Junior pitcher Sydnie Watts played a crucial role in the Falcons’ victory, tossing a complete-game four-hitter and striking out 13 batters. Despite facing some challenges with control, Watts managed to keep the Warriors at bay and secure the win for her team.
The Falcons’ offense also came alive in the game, with second baseman Samantha Severn delivering a key two-run single in the third inning to give the team an early lead. The Falcons further extended their lead with a strong performance in the fifth inning, scoring five runs to take a commanding 8-0 lead.
Overall, the Falcons showcased their strength both on the mound and at the plate, proving once again why they are a force to be reckoned with in high school softball. With their eyes set on another state title, the Falcons are determined to continue their winning streak and make their mark in the state semifinals.
