The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) has announced the advancement of the performance factor initiative for the second time, with a review of winter sports for implementation in the 2024-25 season. The initiative, proposed by an ad hoc committee and approved by a membership vote, aims to promote school programs that achieve tournament success based on a performance point system over a three-year period.
School programs that reach a six-point threshold are placed in a division with larger enrollments, with restrictions on moving up more than one division from the previous year. Schools can also request to move down a division with lower enrollments, subject to approval by the Classification Committee.
Several schools in various sports have accumulated enough points to potentially move up a division, including notable programs in boys and girls basketball, gymnastics, boys hockey, and wrestling. The Classification Committee reviewed requests for both upward and downward movement, with some schools approved for reclassification.
The WIAA will release the Tournament Series assignments for all 2024-25 winter sports later this spring. Schools and programs can visit the WIAA website for more information on the performance factor process and the Classification Committee’s decisions.
Overall, the performance factor initiative aims to create a fair and competitive environment for high school sports, rewarding programs that consistently excel in tournaments. Stay tuned for more updates on the upcoming winter sports season in Wisconsin. #WIAA #EngagingNews #HighSchoolSports
