Community Foundation of Tompkins County, Cayuga Health, and YMCA of Ithaca & Tompkins County have joined forces to launch a groundbreaking health and wellness collaboration called “Let’s Walk.” This innovative initiative aims to promote community wellness and remove barriers associated with healthcare access by bringing together healthcare professionals and community members in a unique program designed to prioritize holistic health and build stronger, healthier communities.
Gloria Coicou, Chief Equity, Community Engagement, & Grants Officer with the Community Foundation, describes “Let’s Walk” as more than just a wellness program—it’s a transformative approach to healthcare that emphasizes community engagement, accessibility, and inclusivity. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in guided walks led by healthcare professionals, providing them with expert advice, support, and resources to improve their overall health and well-being.
Adrian Western, Director of Wellness at Cayuga Health, highlights the importance of nurturing the mind, body, and spirit for overall health. Through “Let’s Walk,” Cayuga Health aims to break down barriers to healthcare and empower individuals to take control of their health in a supportive and welcoming environment.
This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to addressing the social determinants of health and promoting community wellness. By providing participants with direct access to healthcare professionals in a casual and engaging setting, “Let’s Walk” aims to demystify healthcare, foster meaningful connections, and empower individuals to make informed decisions about their health.
Participants in “Let’s Walk” will benefit from expert guidance on physical health and have the opportunity to engage in discussions on various health topics. The program aims to promote overall well-being and create a culture of health within the community.
“Let’s Walk” is open to community members of all ages and fitness levels, with walks scheduled every Wednesday at 5:30PM starting on May 1. Participation is free, and participants will be entered into a drawing for an Apple/Android watch.
