Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has issued a stark warning to the West, stating that if Russia defeats Ukraine, it will be a “turning point in history.” In an opinion piece for the Daily Mail, Johnson criticized Western countries for not providing Ukraine with the necessary weapons to combat Russian aggression.
Johnson, who has visited Ukraine multiple times during his premiership, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that every week that passes without providing Ukraine with the weapons it needs brings Putin closer to his goal of dominating a European country. He warned that a defeat for Ukraine would embolden autocracies around the world and signal to China that the West lacks the willpower to protect democracy.
The former Prime Minister highlighted the dire situation in Ukraine, where troops are running short of essential supplies such as shells and air defenses. He pointed out that the city of Kharkiv is at risk of suffering the same fate as Mariupol due to the lack of adequate protection.
Johnson called on the US Congress to approve a $60 billion military aid package for Ukraine and urged Germany to supply Taurus missiles. He stressed the importance of the West, including Britain, waking up from its “sleep-walk” and taking action to defend freedom by investing in the defense of Ukraine.
The world, according to Johnson, is on a knife-edge, with Western democracies at risk of being humiliated if they do not act decisively. He urged immediate action to prevent a catastrophic outcome that could have far-reaching consequences for global security and democracy.
