The sight of hundreds of Tesla vehicles parked outside Chesterfield Mall in Missouri has left many residents scratching their heads. The mall, set to close its doors in October, has become an unexpected storage space for the electric vehicles, including a number of Cybertrucks.
According to reports, Tesla is utilizing the mall’s parking lot to store unsold vehicles until the closure of the mall later this year. Michael Staenberg, the president of The Staenberg Group, which owns the mall, confirmed that Tesla has been occupying the space for the past six to seven months.
Dozens of Cybertrucks, along with brand new Model Ys and Model 3s in various colors, are among the 300 to 400 Teslas parked outside the mall. Tim Lowe, senior vice president of leasing and development at The Staenberg Group, explained that Tesla did not have enough capacity at its nearby dealership to accommodate all the vehicles they were bringing in, hence the need for additional storage space.
This move by Tesla is not uncommon in the automotive industry, as excess vehicles are often stored at factory lots or distribution centers. The electric vehicle market has been facing challenges with oversupply, leading to lower demand and decreased sales. Tesla reported a decline in quarterly deliveries last quarter, selling about 90,000 fewer cars than expected.
Despite the challenges faced by the EV giant, Tesla continues to innovate and expand its market presence. The unexpected sight of hundreds of Teslas parked outside Chesterfield Mall serves as a reminder of the evolving landscape of the automotive industry.
